As a foster carer, what kind of training will I get?
It is recognised that Fostering has become increasingly demanding and complex. Training is viewed as an important element of Liberty Foster Care’s support to Foster Carers and comprehensive post-approval training is made available to all Foster Carers.
The skills to foster training will enable you to fully familiarise yourself with the issues involved in the care of children and how these may impact on you and your family.
All training is designed to both prepare Foster Carers for Fostering and help them work positively with children and young people who are in need. This includes undertaking training to work therapeutically with children. Our training is available both online and onsite whereby you meet as a group. All training programmes are organised and delivered to ensure that the timing is convenient for you.
As an applicant, you will be expected to attend two-day skills to foster preparation training course. This will give you an understanding of fostering why children come in to care as well as the challenges their needs may present to you. With the help of group activities, the Skills to Foster preparation group will help you to understand your role and responsibilities as a foster carer.
