Newsletter – July 2017

Welcome to Liberty Foster Carer’s Summer newsletter.

During the past few weeks, we have welcomed a new Supervising Social Worker called Sandy Fraser into Liberty.  Some of you will have met Sandy already, he is currently working 3 days a week. Sandy will be helping at the BBQ.

The Duty phone line is operational 24 hours a day.

Upcoming Events in Liberty:

The big BBQ on 5th  August is in the same place QE County Park and the same time as previous years 1230 – 1530 we have Activ8 coordinating the activities for the day. The only difference is the activity.  Something which everyone can take part in if they choose.  Any offers of help with the cooking on the day will be gratefully received.

Looking to hold another Liberty Picnic at the end of the Holidays on Friday 01st September – we are open to suggestions as to where we meet, as we are spread far and wide.

Summer Activities – if you are considering additional activities over the summer holiday period, please speak to the office before you book as there may be additional funds available.

Don’t forget to use your MAX card for discounts – anyone who hasn’t been issued with one, please talk to the office and we can organize one for you. Also please take a look online at the Foster Talk Network, as they also offer discounts.

With all this talk of activities, please remember to log any accidents or injuries that your looked after child might have sustained on e-social care in the appropriate section.  If you are administering any medication, please log on the child’s record, along with any measures of control ie: restraint strategies to manage behavior then this needs to be recorded clearly and reported to your Supervising Social Worker as soon as possible. We also have body maps which can be written on and uploaded, if you need one, just call or email the office or speak to your supervising Social Worker when they visit next.  Remember to lead by example, so if you are all out on your bikes it is important that you wear your cycle helmet also. The Ofsted Inspector is due at any time over the next couple of months.  They may well phone or pay you a visit in person for a chat.  They will also look at the files we have stored on e-social care, so please make sure that any reports or logs are both up to date and of a good standard.

This time of year heralds the start of the busy Review time for all Carer’s.  You will have your Annual Review with your Supervising Social Worker (SSW) and then the Independent Reporting Officer (IRO) will visit you in your home.  Carers are invited back to the Panel with their 1st Annual Review, 3rd Annual Review and every 3 years after that.  Can we ask that you complete and return any paperwork that is given to you swiftly, this will aid in the Review process to runs smoothly.

Finally, don’t forget a recommendation of a new Foster Carer who is successfully recommended by the Panel can earn you £1,000.
